Update: Read our review of Love Always Wins.

R&B singer Kem has had a wild career. Growing up in Detroit, being homeless for a few years, his life shaped him as an artist and person. To then be signed to Motown Records, the iconic label of Detroit was poetic and a match that has suited him well over a career featuring several successful albums.

This weekend brings the latest release from Kem, Love Always Wins. Kem has grown a lot over the last 6 years since his last release,Promise to Love came out. He's bought a house, seen his regular recording spot go out of business, gotten married, and had two children. And through it all, he has continued to refine his craft, perfecting the songs that would define the new album.

While Kem is sticking to his roots with the new album, he also is showcasing a wide variety. Love features some rich falsetto. Lie to Me has feelings of funk to it. And the titular track, Love Always Wins, feels like it's Al Green in modern times.

And with the political climate of today, Kem joins the artists who bring their feelings to music with the song Friend Today. The track shows Kem moving into the social lane, and was revised from its initial state to better reflect the experiences of recent months with events like the killing of George Floyd.

Overall, Kem's new album Love Always Wins showcases what makes him such a great artist. His diverse musical talents are on display, and his ability to explore feelings and experiences with immense depths. His duo with Toni Braxton, Live Out Your Love, has been popular on the charts, and it is fitting as she also released an album on the same day, Spell My Name.
