Sisqo, Shawn Stockman, Raheem DeVaughn remake The Secret Garden.

Quincy Jones "Secret Garden" from Back on the Block is one of those iconic tracks. The original featured an all-star lineup of El DeBarge, Al B Sure, James Ingram and Barry White. Since then we saw a remake done by Jermaine Dupri, and now we have another iteration.

The lineup for this remake is a solid lineup itself, with Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men, Sisqo of Dru Hill, Raheem DeVaughn and Omar Wilson coming together to record the track. It's fun listening to their take and mapping the performers to their equivalent contenders on the original track.

Compared to the past cover of the song, these guys stayed more true to Quincy Jones original vision. I think the song starts out a little slow/bland, but around three minutes in it really heats up. The guys do some great harmonies together and really get into the spirit of the song as it heats up. They then have a lot of fun in the outro as they ad lib over one another and intermix smaller harmony sets.

My biggest takeaway from all of it though is my surprise at Omar Wilson's inclusion. I'm not familiar with his work, so seeing him paired up with such strong forces in R&B was an interesting surprise. Of course, hearing the track, it starts to make more sense as he has such a distinct gravelly sound that he's a good fill-in for Barry White.
