New Music: Brian McKnight and Mike Phillips - Watching You

feature image

Brian McKnight collaborated with Mike Phillips on the new song "Watching You." A cover of the hit song by Slave, it's a fun throwback to some classic music. In interviews about his latest album, Exodus, Brian McKnight said he wasn't going to be releasing any more albums. It's good to see based on this performance that he hopefully will continue releasing new music at least.

The video features the guys embracing social distancing, as Brian McKnight performs the vocals remotely from his home. Mike Phillips is in full force with his band and each of them keeping a good distance from each other. The video is very minimal as it's just the guys grooving together. It's kind of fun to me watching the video because Brian McKnight sounds so good, and makes it look so easy.

To spice things up, we've also included footage of Slave performing the track. The video quality isn't great, but it's fun seeing the guys in classic funk clothing rocking out. Steve Arrington performing lead vocals, it's classic funk through and through.

This collaboration between Mike Phillips and Brian McKnight is one of many that are featured on Phillips album, Pulling Off the Covers. If you enjoy this kind of song, you can hear work with other great artists like Stevie Wonder, Raheem DeVaughn and PJ Morton on the album. Listen to the performance below and let us know what other songs you might like to see covered.
