New Music: Ashanti - 235 (2:35 I Want You)

Ashanti is having a week. Her Verzuz battles with Keyshia Cole set records, attracting 8 million viewers during its duration. In comparison, the previous record was held by Brandy and Monica who had 6 million views during their battle. Crazy numbers for two talented women.

If that wasn't enough, Ashanti used the opportunity to drop a new single. The new track, 235 (2:35 I Want You) was produced by J-Roc and continues Ashanti's work through her independent imprint, Written Entertainment. She dropped it during the Verzuz and with the number of viewers they had, it's already gotten crazy amounts of press.

So how is the song? It doesn't have a guest rapper on the track, which shows Ashanti isn't worried about doing things on her own and showing she's a talent. Her vocals sounded improved during the Verzuz and they continue to sound great here. I really like the production, it almost feels like a Brandy joint here.

It's cool seeing Ashanti making moves to reestablish herself in the industry. We have waited seven years for a follow-up to her album Braveheart, and it feels like we may be getting to see that next release sometime in 2021. If Verzuz is what it takes to see more artist resurgences, I am totally for it. Now lets just get that SWV verzuz Xscape battle going!
