New Music: Toni Braxton - Gotta Move On

With a new album, Spell My Name, this Friday, Toni Braxton's been on top of the world. She's topped the charts with her single Do It, and is now out with another track, "Gotta Move On." The track features H.E.R. pairing the queen of 90s R&B with one of the biggest names of today.

The track follows the release of the music video for "Dance" which came out last week. But while that track was a fun, fast paced dance song, "Gotta Move On" slows it down a lot. This song is a haunting reflection as Toni Braxton tells herself to get out of a bad relationship.

H.E.R.'s participation on the track is not what you'd expect as she plays guitar on the song. It's a bit of a fake out as I don't know if anyone is listening for the guitar riffs, but H.E.R. does kill it with a solo for a long stretch of the end of the song. It's almost like she was asked for a verse and sent the guitar piece instead. Cool.

Toni Braxton's delivery on the track is a bit too soft for me. The lines are very short and stop and go, which holds the track back from really pulling me into it. I want to feel like I'm in a web of words.

Listen to the track below and let us know what you think. Are you excited for Spell My Name this friday?
