New Music: JoJo Hailey - Official

JoJo Hailey continues his efforts to return to music with a new single, Official. We've seen several tracks by him over the past year, with In My Arms and Special, where he collaborated with Snoop Dogg and former Jodeci member Mr Dalvin.

The new track, "Official" is all about JoJo. Telling a girl he wants to take things to the next level and make it official, the track sounds alright. One thing about it that really gets me on edge is he curses in the chorus. I'm no puritan, but it just feels disingenuous when you're trying to be emotional and tell a girl you care about her. It doesn't ring true or sincere enough. I want to hear JoJo feel like he's really eager to make this Official. But maybe that's me.

Otherwise, this track suffers from my usual issues with JoJo's solo work. He sounds fine, but it just sounds better with his brother. Their voices complement each other well, and when alone, they just have some monotonous feel to it. I just want me some K-Ci & JoJo or Jodeci, the solo stuff never fills the niche. It just lacks the versatility and contrast in their sounds, I find myself more distracted by the production it attempts to use as compensation for the blandness of the delivery.
