Cedrick Cotton of Ideal Dies in Houston
When we first made this site, one of the first articles we wrote was in memory of some of the great R&B artists that passed away too soon. So many talented artists were lost. Ephraim Lewis, Aaliyah, Left Eye, Gerald LeVert. As time has passed, that list has only gotten longer. Unfortunately, Cedrick "Swab" Cotton of Ideal has now joined the list.
Cotton's death was unfortunately a murder as he was stabbed to death in Houston last Tuesday, February 9th. He was killed outside of a food market.
While Ideal hasn't been active since their debut album, the group did issue a statement through a Facebook page for the group. In the statement they said "This unexpected attack has devastated our family, friends and support system." They praised Cedrick as a good man, who was a loving part of his family.
Ideal was a tight knit group when they came out, as the group was made up of family and friends. In addition to Cedrick Cotton, Ideal was comprised of his brother Maverick “Mav” Cotton, his cousin Wayne “PZ” Perry, and his friend Jay “J-Dante” Green. The group's debut album was best known for the hit single "Get Gone" but included other solid tracks like "Creep Inn" and "Whatever." They first came on the scene with their song "Inner City Blues" from the movie Original Gangstas.
It's a sad day to see another talented artist die. We'll remember his legacy and be sure to listen to some of their songs in thought of him this week.
