Eric McCaine: Many Faces

- What made you leave singing and focus on music production?
That last deal! I was caught up in a contract with a madman and his label. So I left New York and moved to Atlanta and never looked back, "I had to get out, to get back in!" I started doing production with Keith Sweat and his label. Keith had already been in Atlanta, so after coming down and doing a project with Keith. It just felt right so I told the wife lets go and we moved down, at the time my son was just 6 weeks old!
- I understand you've worked in production with a wide variety of artist including Keith Sweat, Mista and LL Cool J. What are some of the tracks you've worked on that you're were most proud of?
With Keith Sweat I worked on a few of his albums but one of favorites hands down is "Twisted" featuring Kut Klose. I also worked on several tracks on Kut Klose's album and my favorite of which was "Surrender". some others included Mista's "What Luv Is", Eve's "Got What You Need", that was on her Grammy Nominated Scorpion album. And some of my favorite songs I've produced that never made it out. Yet……
- Have you talked much to Free since you two went separate ways? What is he working on today?
We never lost contact with each other we've always stayed Entouch. Free has been doing production and has a publishing company he's working with.
- Your web site mentions you're working on a solo album titled Perseverance. Can you tell us a little more about the album, and what we can expect from it?
This has been in the works for some time now. It's been a few years in the process, since the Entouch days. This project is truly a reflection of my passion and struggles in and out of the music industry and finding my way. That's where the title "Perseverance" comes from, in which one truly needs that, to make it through in this world. I believe I'm doing so and this is just a continuation of my growth. With this project it represents my determination to win and how I continue to paint my canvass through this music.
What to expect is great vibrations, coming from my background in Hip Hop, R&B and my diverse musical upbringing. What I'm bringing to this endeavor is something Jazzy, Sexy and very Smooth, definitely for my grown and sexy people! I plan on releasing this project independently on my label, this fall for my 44th birthday this October. This is my gift to the universe as a free download, which will be available at my web site www.emccaine.com
- Looking beyond Perseverance, what do you have planned for the next year in the music industry?
Besides hitting the road on my grass root movement as an independent artist. I'm now creating music for picture & sound branding, in fact I've done music for the block buster game Grand Theft Auto IV and I've got a skating game that features some of my works coming out later this year. I'm also doing advertisement and television music production, composing and singing on commercials and that's really going great! It's a new avenue in my music adventures, so I'm just letting it flow like a river.
- Looking back on the 90s R&B, what were some of your favorite tracks?
If I had to sum up my favorites I would have to say Sade, Lauryn Hill and Carl Thomas hands down!
- Returning to today's R&B, what tracks are most often found on your play list?
I would say songs from: Ayo, Kem, Corinne Bailey Rae, John Legend, Eric Roberson, Mint Condition, Musiq Soulchild, Keyshia Cole & Robin Thicke.
