V got his start working as a back-up singer for artists like Christopher Williams and James Poyser. However, the Philadelphia native really started climbing the ranks after his single "It's Raining" topped a countdown on the urban radio station Power 99 FM.

With the success of his single, V caught the attention of DJ Jazzy Jeff who brought V into his production team. While working on Jazzy Jeff's A Touch of Jazz production team, V wrote songs for Will Smith, Musiq Soulchild and Justin Timberlake. He also contributed vocals to DJ Jazzy Jeff's Magnificent album.

In 2006, V released his debut album, The Revelation Is Now Televised. Jill Scott appears on the album in a guest appearance on the track "Born Again."
