Tyrese Gibson was born in Los Angeles, California. He started his trek to stardom at the age of 14 when he won a talent show. He then appeared in a Coca-Cola advertisement, bringing him closer to the public eye. At 17, he began modelling for Tommy Hilfiger.

Tyrese music career began with a rap group known as Triple Impact but his entrance into R&B came in 1998 when he released his self-titled debut album in 1998. The album had commercial success, selling over one million copies. Its single, 'Sweet Lady' made it to number 12 on the Billboard Top 100.

In 2001, Tyrese released the album 2000 Watts, which is also the name of a charity Tyrese founded. The album went gold and was followed up in 2002 by the album I Wanna go There, which also went gold. The single 'How You Gonna Act Like That' reached number 7 on the Billboard Top 100.

Since 2001, Tyrese has begun acting. His first appearance was in the movie Baby Boy, playing a part originally intended for Tupac Shakur. He has since gone on to appear in 2 Fast 2 Furious, Flight of the Phoenix, Four Brothers and Annapolis. His latest film is Waist Deep.

Tyrese latest ventures have been in screenwriting where he has sold pitches to MGM and Universal Studios. In 2006, he sold his first original script To Each His Own to Screen Gems. He has also formed his own television and film production company, HQ Pictures.

Tyrese is expected to release an album, Alter Ego in 2006.
