Rome
Jerome 'Rome' Woods was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan in 1970. As a child he would sing along to his mother's soul records and joined the local church choir. While in high school, he joined an R&B cover group, Fire & Ice, and toured the region performing in local clubs.
In 1989, Rome dropped out of Alabama's Oakwood University to pursue his dream of a music career. He toured with Vesta as a backing vocalist and appeared in industry showcases and on cable programs. After several years, he finally connected with producers Gerald Baillergeau and Victor Merrit who got him in touch with RCA Records.
RCA signed Rome in 1996 and his self-titled debut album was released in 1997. The album crafted a huge hit with 'I Belong To You' which reached #2 on the R&B charts, #6 on the Hot 100 and went platinum. The album's second single, 'Do You Like This' reached #10 on the R&B charts and #31 on the Hot 100. With such strong singles, the album performed strongly and went platinum.
Rome's later efforts never reached the same level of success as his first album. In 1999, he released the album Rome 2000: Thank You. In 2003, the album Do It was released.
