Lloyd
Lloyd Harlin Polite, Jr., known to the music world simply as Lloyd, was born in 1986 in New Orleans, Louisiana. At the young age of 11, Lloyd joined the group N-Toon, created by Joyce Irby of the 80s group Klymaxx. While the group released the single "Ready" and the album Toon Time in 2000, they broke up shortly after. With the group broken up, Lloyd was forced to search for a solo deal.
Lloyd was initially signed to MCA Records, but was released from the label after MCA was dissolved into Geffen Records. L.A. Reid, then head of Def Jam, was impressed by Lloyd's talents and worked with Irv Gotti to bring Lloyd onto the team through The Inc.
On Def Jam's The Inc, Lloyd released the single "Southside" with Ashanti. The single was a big enough hit that it became the title of Lloyd's debut album in 2004. The album's second single, "Hey Young Girl" followed.
In 2007, Lloyd released his sophomore effort, Street Love. The album was a big hit, going gold almost immediately. Street Love was packed with hits, with "You" reaching #1 on the Hot R&B Songs and #19 on the Pop 100 charts. The single "Get It Shawty" reached #16 on the Hot 100 and "Valentine" reached #60 on the Hot R&B songs.
