Divine

Divine

Divine was an R&B trio comprised of Kia Thornton, Nikki Bratcher, and Tonia Tash. When the girls first came onto the scenes in 1996, they were still teenagers. While in high school, they were recruited by Ruben Rodriguez of Pendulum Records to create the group Divine.

In 1998, the girls, only just out of high school, scored a #1 hit on the Hot 100 with "Lately." The group's second single "One More Try," a cover of the song by George Michael, reached #29. Despite the strength of these singles, the group's album, Fairy Tales, failed to do well. In 2000, the group broke up.

Kia Thornton of Divine actually auditioned for American Idol in 2007. She sang Aretha Franklin's "Ain't No Way," and made it to Hollywood, California, but was cut during those rounds.
