The neo-soul movement seemed to come alive during the 2000s and really, soul music in general has held its own. Here's a few artists embellished in soul and fit for a listen.
Maxwell - This Woman's Work
I'll be the first to warn you, when you hear this song, you might be put off. I had trouble dealing with Maxwell's high pitch and could hardly understand what he said. However, after a few listens, I couldn't stop listening to this track. About a woman giving birth, it's a damned beautiful song.
Rahsaan Patterson - Feels Good
Rahsaan's voice is a little easier to handle so this should be a little easier introduction. A nice soul song, Rahsaan's got a great relaxing feel and the finger snapping helps chill the mood.
Raheem Devaughn - Customer
Raheem put a nice original spin on this one. Speaking to a woman as if she is coming into a restaurant to make a purchase. It's a nice entertaining song.
Erykah Badu - Bag Lady
I've never been a fan of Erykah Badu's music, but I offer this one in case you might be. One of her biggest hits, this reflects some of the best of what Erykah's got to offer. A strong soulful sound, Erykah's been leading the way for a long time.
Alicia Keys - Fallin
When Alicia Keys burst onto the scene with this one, she had EVERYBODY reeling. And it's still relevant today because this song is still reallll good. So listen in and say "dang! I remember this song!" And then realize the 2000s aren't so bad.
Anthony Hamilton - Charlene
Anthony Hamilton came out during the 1990s with a brief hurrah, and then disappeared. However, when he came back in the 2000s, he wasn't going to go away so easily. He put out some great tracks, with none better than this great jam that's got some nice soulful sound to it.
John Legend - Stay With You
John Legend's got his own unique style and it's fortunate that him and Kanye were able to collaborate and bring each other into stardom. This song's got a nice soulful sound and is one of many great tracks from John Legend.
