So this list started out nice and long. However, as I worked on it, I realized many of the artists listed actually came out in the 1990s. Well, never fear, there's still many that didn't! These are some great artists that burst onto the scenes in the 2000s but kept the flame alive with some real great music.
3rd Storee - I'm Sorry
I've featured this track before, so you know I'm a fan. These guys sound like they're straight out of the 1990s (And they actually did have a low key release in the late 90s). It's a great sorry song and showed some hope for the 2000s.
Jersey Ave - Wonder Why
As a group comprised of four brothers, Jersey Ave seemed like they were meant to be in the 1990s. I've covered their "I'll Wait Right Here" before and it's probably their best track. But I just wanted to show you that many of their tracks kept a nice classic sound. Here's their "I Wonder Why" in which they sing about a girl they've had a child with.
Musiq Soulchild - Love
Besides giving all of his albums and tracks obnoxious names that make it a pain to spell, Musiq puts out some great music. This track, titled "Love" is just one of many awesome tracks he's put out during his career.
Lathun - Fortunate
Lathun had such a sweet voice. Yet as the industry seems to be cruel at times, he came out with one album and then seemed to back away from the game. Still, here's an example of what this artist seemed to be capable of.
Jaheim - Never
While I've always loved Jaheim's rich voice, this quickly became my favorite song by him. The chorus is catchy and throughout, it's such a classic track. Listen, and then listen again.
Carl Thomas - I Wish
Here's another one of those artists who seems perfectly fit for the 1990s. So if you're ever looking for a post-90s artist to sate your needs, Carl Thomas can help you. Here's proof:
Lo-Key got their start when member Lance Alexander stood up and asked Jimmy "Jam" Harris, "How do I get one of those Flyte Tyme jackets!" at a conference.
