| I have Today's albums but I've only listened to one song. I'm actually a big fan of Basic Black. I've owned their album since 1991 (and it still works perfectly too!). Technically it was my mom's first but she gave it to me. "Baby Can We Talk" and "Whatever it takes" are my jams. Hey, I recommend giving me-2-u a listen if you havent yet. If nothing else, check out "Nex 2 U", "Raindrops", "Goodbye Girl", and "I Love" | |

| I've contacted a few of the guys from Hi-Five and Me-2-U. None have got back with me. I was actually planning to mail Silk and Shai next. Did silk ever get back with you? | |
| Hey didnt you do a interview with one of the guys from No Question? Where is it. BTW, what do you say to these artists when you contact them on FB. I've contacted a few but they never respond. | |
| Dude, you kicked that interview with No Question. Great job man, much love for sure. Can you ask if he has any promotional photos of the group so we can spice up the interview with some pictures? Nice job again man, awesome awesome work | |
| I made a fan page and made you a joint admin. It's going to take some work to make it up to snuff but we should be able to do some cool stuff with it. I'm going to make photo albums of different artists to get it started, and then put a link to it on rnbhaven's front page/my twitter/my r&b blog, and hopefully we can get some people to fan it. It's probably not good to show it to artists though until we get some hundreds of fans on it so it looks legit :). But give it some time, we'll get it there. | |
| Yea, I will try and make the Facebook group soon, just so we have it up there. I'm going to look into what all it involves so we can hopefully get it growing to a decent size/market it through the site as well. | |
| Aye, I think that might be the best option for us. I just sent a message to Martin Kember so we'll see what happens :-D. Keep me posted! | |
| Yo, Nice finds. Keep me posted on what they say back. No Question would be pretty sweet haha. I just posted Portrait there as future reference, haven't contacted em yet. | |
| Yo Moof. We talked on facebook a while back and you mentioned all the R&B artists who were now on there? Can you send me links or tell me which ones you'd found? I figure with how well it worked with Solo, this could be a great way to try and contact more of them. Thanks brah. We gotta catch up... how's the summer going? | |
| Lol thanks bro. I made that video after after arguing with a few people in the original video. I recieved quite a few nasty messages from people callin me "dumbass, stupid, etc". After I made the video, they all came back and apologized. It was hilarious. | |
| Check out my show Mondays 4pm est/3pm Ct at CLCRadio.org If you love the music that made this website possible, you'll love the show. R&b from the 70's.80's & 90's and Today. | |
| Nevermind, I figured out what the problem was. Sorry about that, I hope you didn't write a long well thoght out essay. I fixed it though, you can post now! | |
| Are you finding a bug on the forum? I noticed you posted the same thing three times... and it was just wha tI said lol. Let me know. | |
| Hey man, I'm just keeping busy. I graduated from college in May and moved/started a new job last week. It's interesting though lonely as sin being in a new town where you know no one haha. How are things going on your end? Doing anything cool this summer? As for the Tony Rich album, be sure to listen to it a few times first. With pretty much every one of his albums, the first time I hear it there are only usually a few songs that I really like (a la "Nobody Knows" and "Missing You" on the debut). But as you listen to them more, you start to really catch into the meaning and feeling of them and start to love all of them. A lot of it is all your personal interpretation, but I'll give you mine for the ones you mentioned and you can check em out and try and see what it means to you. Billy Goat: This song is told like a traveling balladeer might do it. So it's more a story than a song. What Tony is saying is that there are men who are afraid to settle down and run away from the commitments in their lives because they're scared to commit. By avoiding these commitments, you're never going to really develop a connection or tie to anyone or anything and so, you really lose a lot of your identity and person. To explain this through lyrics: "Billy even had a girl But he called her friend" "Billy told Betty, that he was leavin town Billy got babies over here and over there" The chorus on the track is reinforcing the notion by basically telling Billy Goat what he SHOULD do. Ghost: The important thing with this one, is to envision all of the lyrics being said by a late husband/wife to their spouse. It might have a deeper metaphor but it works SO well in this context, that it doesn't even matter. From lyrics: "I can here you cry Like a kid with an injured knee I can see you pray for me Before you lay to sleep" "How can you feel alone at night Even when I'm by your side" "Like an angel's heart I'll blend within the wind" Ghost: Again, once you have the concept, the lyrics really start to make sense throughout. In this one, envision the song describing someone who's bitter about the way their life is, and struggling to make ends meet. They say that when "Their grass is green" or when they finally get their turn, they'll be happy and high. But in the meantime, they're sad and struggling just to survive. What REALLY makes this song for me is that last line... "Cause this grass, ain't nothin but a mirror." How powerful is that? Basically, your position in your life has nothing to do with where you're at but instead, your mindset and who you are. The person being sung about won't have "green grass" because they're living in a world of bitterness about their situation. In lyrics: Bitter outlook: "The way to survive this hellhole" Things will be better when I make it: "When the grass is green I'll be swimmin' in a zone" Further reinforcing his negative mindset: "Said I be down, in the gutter Lookin for food Lookin for mental satisfaction And physical reaction Cause ain't no fairy in these tales It's all about takin what you want And makin bail" Let me know what you think of these or if you interpret it differently. I LOVE Tony Rich and his songs definitely require a lot of review to truly respect them. Keep me posted as you listen to the album! | |
| Whats going on? | |
| oh wow you're a young one lol...i'm going to kwantlen right now but I'm SFU bound in the fall | |
| Lol yep...where do you go to school? | |
| Richmond, what about you? | |
| LOL nice. Next time, I'm just going to hand deliver it because it seems like it would probably be faster to get it to you then :). | |
| Hey thanks alot with helping me find that song by Jesse Powell. I really appreciate it | |
| So the package is now en route! Hope you enjoy the cd :) | |
| Hey what's up Unfortunately I'm with the guru on this one as I know nothing about JE...sorry. You know more than me since i dont even know their names haha | |
| Hrmm unfortunately, I don't know much about the guys in Jagged Edge so I don't know which tracks the various guys lead on. I'll try looking it up some though | |
| Yea, the guys sound younger but there's nothing to mistake their voices. I was actually impressed with the number of people who got both the song name and the Boyz. Ne-Yo's a good one to use to try and get people into R&B since So Sick was probably the latest actual good R&B song that went pop. But yea, I know what you mean about the challenge. So many people say "I hate R&B!" and when I say "What about So Sick?" they just say "Well that's different!" | |
| Hey, hopefully today's audio track will be easier for you :). Yea, I sort of conned my friend into liking some doowop as he heard an old doowop track on the radio and commented that he liked it. I called him out on it since he bags R&B all the time. I unfortunately haven't listened to visions of a sunset in a while which is too bad because it's a beautiful song. One of these days I'll catch it. | |
| Well that works out perfect then. The Ne-Yo album is tight so I hope you're able to win and get it from me :). I'm doing pretty good and done with my final set of classes as a college student. Now it's just a matter of getting ready for the holidays with my family. I actually started introducing a friend to Doo-Wop the other day when listening to an oldies radio station which I thought might be of more interest to you. How are you doing? | |
| I've had a chance to listen to a few of them and I really love Earth Angel by The Penguins. I'm still oing to have to give all of them a couple more listens to pull a final verdict but I can say from what I've seen that your taste in Doo Wop is impeccable :). Thanks for the recs Moofu my man. You're free to tell me any songs to listen to whenever you want! | |
| Thanks man :). I hope you'll let us know how the Boyz II Men concert was! | |
| I'm gonna have to look into those tracks. Thanks for the recommendations! As for how I got into it, it's a good question. I guess I've always liked acapella music (Boyz II Men's I Do and Shai's If I Ever Fall In Love are some of my fav tracks). Then, I saw the movie A Bronx Tale and they had a doo wop group singing "I Only Have Eyes For You" on a corner and it just hit me like, this is basically a genre of music that is all acapella. Downloaded the Pretenders greatest hits album and it's been love ever since :). How'd you get into it? | |
| Hey Moofu, Yea, it's good to see another fan. I don't know many acts (so any recommendations are appreciated!) but I LOVE the Platters. My favorite track is "The Great Pretender" but some others that I love include: Only You Magic Touch My Prayer Shake, Rattle, Roll They also had a track about spinning a roulette wheel or something that I really liked. What's on your list? | |
