Tony Rich won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Album in 1997 for his album Words. Since then, Tony Rich has released three more albums that have received significantly less coverage. Of these four works, what ten songs stand as his best?
1. Nobody Knows - Words
The single that helped carry Tony Rich's 1996 debut album Words to the Grammy Award for Best R&B album. The track's got great lyrics, rings with emotion and is just perfect.
2. If You're An Angel - Birdseye
The song is beautiful with Rich pleading for the woman to take away his pains and lift him away from this world.
3. Anymore - Exists
This song is strong. The song has so much emotion as Tony Rich sings about the experience of being close with someone. It talks about the changes that come with love and is packed to the brim with power.
4. Missin' You - Words
The song reeks of Nobody Knows, featuring a similar message and a similar flow. The lyrics are just as compelling with several quotable lines. The only downside of the track is the uninspired chorus, which is the only thing keeping it from being #2 on the list.
5. Don't Be Worried - Pictures
The song features Tony Rich and an acoustic guitar and really drives home in its depression. Tony Rich uses silence with a master stroke here, taking long pauses between tracks. The song is simplistic and sparse, but in its simplicity, the song is powerful.
6. My Stomach Hurts - Birdseye
What do you get when you mix R&B artists and rock? This song, which actually ends up working well as the song's flow dances about, keeping the groove rolling.
7. Silly Man - Birdseye
This song immediately jumps out for the line "So I'll bake you a chocolate cake." It seems like a silly line but that's what this song is about. The song is about love and the way it makes you think and feel silly because nothing else matters but your love.
8. Moving On - Pictures
The song has a very short line structure that really gets the song off on a nice note. The song talks about the idea of getting up and moving on in your life in hopes of finding a new place. While there might be some religious undertones, it goes over my head and so, as a song either way, it's good.
9. I Wanna Be - Exists
This song gets on the list because of a single line. "I wanna be what you are to me" is so simple and yet it defines what every love song is about. Having someone love you the way you love them. A great song from a great album.
10. No Time Soon - Birdseye
Some people might disagree with the poppy feel of this track. But it has such a happy, uplifting feel to it that just makes you feel good. Not to mention the infectiously catchy lyrics and it's a damn good song.
