So I love Ne-Yo's lyrics, I think he's one of the best writers in the game and his songs are often complex and clever in their delivery. But listening to some of his songs, I think he's crazy weak as a singer.
I guess I never noticed it before because his writing often fits to his voice so he doesn't need to be pressed into really driving vocals. But man, when you hear him doing a power ballad, he sucks it hard.
I've heard everyone say his voice is annoying.... I don't get it. By no means is it a breath-taking voice, but its not annoying what so ever. Listen to So Sick, Because of You, Miss Independent, etc. The songs themselves might get repetitive, but its not his voice thats the problem.
haha yeaaa that's bad. Honestly though, most of that is bad because Ne-Yo can't do that song. That's actually a great example of what I'm talking about. Ne-Yo can sing the songs he does really well because they are fit for his style. But when he tries to do standard R&B, he's got nothing.

i agree with buddah's statement though, you know who else is like him, claude kelly, he wrote a lot of songs for a lot of people, and he also sings (doesn't have an album out, but has tons of songs out) but he's like ne-yo, in a way.. like guru says, "limited".
