| Question about R&B Groups or boy bands. | ||||
lpc26 2009-08-20 18:30:13 Total Posts: 732 | I was at the Michael Jackson IMDB board and we was talking about 3T. Someone mentioned that 3T wouldn't make it big in the US because people aren't into groups or boy bands anymore. Do you anyone find that true? I think that person may be right because if you look at today's music you hardly see any groups out mostly solo singers coming into the scene. The last group I heard of was BRUTHA and after that 1 CD I don't know what they are doing now. Even in the pop scene you don't have that many boy bands like there was in the 90's.
Havok214 2009-08-20 22:26:49 Total Posts: 407 | We kinda had this discussion before in a differnt topic so I'll just copy/paste my responses from that topic. ""I think the whole "boy band" stigma pretty much eliminated the chance of groups getting popular again."" ""About Boy Bands: I still think they killed the group scene. I'm not saying anything about N'Sync/BSB/98 Degrees talent wise because thats a whole different topic for a different day. What I"m saying is, these guys had tremendous success. Problem is, they were mainly appealing to kids and teenage girls. Most music critics and the media in general didnt take them seriously as artist. They were being dismissed as talentless pop teen sensations. As more of these groups started popping up, all of a sudden the term "boy band" appears and the media runs with it as a way to describe them. After a while, it became a negative stereotype to be associated with. The term still sticks today. I've seen Boyz II men, New Edition, Jodeci and countless others all referred to as boy bands by professional music critics(even though the term didnt appear until well after these groups debuted). Even Day26(the latest RnB group I can think of) have been referred to as a boy bands. "" ""Oh yeah, another thing I forgot to mention about N'Sync/BSB/98 Degrees etc is that the media was giving them alot of attention for their good looks and personalities rather than their music. Just more ammo for music critics.""

d0rk 2009-08-21 03:46:09 Total Posts: 359 | There's a bunch of good r&b groups, they just don't get the exposure, either cuz they're signed with an indie label or they ain't signed.. which pretty much sucks, considering some of them has mad talent.. ie, Ahmir & One Chance.
R&B Guru 2009-08-21 11:12:25 Total Posts: 2527 | Sadly, Havok's said it before and he's right. Though d0rk is also right about Ahmir and One Chance. And with Boyz II Men and All 4 One both putting out albums later this year that sound pretty tight, we'll have groups for some time. Honestly though lpc, 3T had a lot of trouble in the US even way back in the day. Despite the love for Michael, I feel like the rest of the Jacksons have always had a stigma about them in the US.
lpc26 2009-08-22 04:07:51 Total Posts: 732 | I'm sorry I didn't know this topic was already created before. Thanks for you guys replies anyway. Havock you right and I agree. Dork I agree about One Chance they sound pretty good, I never heard of Ahmir. R&B Guru at the time when 3T came out back in 1995 I living overseas in Japan I don't know if they were hot here in the US or not. Now that I'm back in the US I know some people that still remember who they are and some are like those are Michael and Janet nephews.
