Yeah you can feel free to add them on fb. Damon took a long time to hit me back but Nick is pretty good about it. I was going to wait for you. But, I didn't wanna prolong it too long and piss him off lol.
I'm gonna get hate for this but here it goes anyway.... Lionel Ricjie's "Can't Slow Down" album is better than "Thriller". There, I said it. I see Lionel's album as a polar opposite to Michael's. Michael's album had mainly dance tracks with a few ballads, Lionel's had a few dance tracks with mainly ballads. "Can't Slow Down" is like a More R&B version of "Thriller"
Other than that, they are pretty much the same as far as having big hits(though MJ pwns in that category). Lionel had 2 #1 hits, a top 5 hit, and 2 top 10 hits with this one. All quality tracks that are mainly produced/written by Lionel himself, with is very impressive. Both albums, were made to be huge hits, however Lionel played it safe it seems, whereas MJ went all out, crossing many boundries. But I still gotta say Lionel's album is more impressive.
I'm sorry but how can you compare stuck on you/ penny lover/all nite long/ to "Thriller" you can't MJ created something new. There were a lot of things that made the Thriller album what it was. Their was a quote from MJ about him saying that he did not like his album at the listening party and they went back and remixed the album all the way to the deadline because MJ was striving for perfection. It's the greatest selling album for a reason.
I don't know about Lionel Richie stuff my dad has most of his CDs. I know the song "all nite long" and "stuck on you". Since I'm a Michael fan I have to go with Michael "thriller" that is an amazing CD.
Moofu you should buy and listen to the Quincy interview on the reissued Thriller album. It was Michael who put that album together he and he alone had the vision. If you listen to it you will hear Quincy tell you that out of his own mouth. All ways know what you are talking about before you speak.
Of course Bunky I respect your opinion but I disagree.
Thriller full of dance tracks? Sure most of the songs were mid to uptempo but I wouldnt automatically categorize them as "dance tracks". Dance songs typically lack substance which is deffinetly not a problem Thriller has, especiallly with songs like "Beat It" and "Billie Jean" which conveyed important messages and who better to do it than an extremely popular music star. Every song on Thriller (minus "The Girl is Mine" which IMO undeniably brings the quality of the album down but I generally ignore it) has great writing and production. Songs like "Human nature" and "Lady In My Life" and "Billie Jean" were executed perfectly and are among some of my favorite songs.
Now, I have virtually have no problem with Lionel's "Cant Slow Down". I love that album, especially tracks like "Hello", "The Only One" and "Penny Lover", but the album was a bit more generic, or typical of other releases around that time. Michael took alot more risk and explored some subjects previously untouched in mainstream (mainly) music such as in "Thriller" (the song) or "Beat It".
Yea, I didnt mean to say that dance tracks were generic, i just went by tempo. And yes, Michael did take a huge risk with thriller. What im saying is that i think lionels album had just as much quality in it as thriller. i think lionel was completely himself, every track his own. michael is a completely different monster. he cant be defined. he could make a song about anything and it would be him.
lionel only had the better hair cuz MJ's got burn the fuck off. lol. thank you pepsi!
as for the album comparison, cant slow down was a huge album. love will find a way, penny lover, all night long, hello, etc. were all good songs. but c'mon! thriller is thriller. lionel richie gets destroyed here.
mj made the ultimate "maury povich, you are not the father song" with billie jean. then he strong armed paul mccartney and stole his girl. etc. the list goes on.
"baby be mine" (the song) >>>>> cant slow down (the album)
look, i know thriller is like THE album to beat. what i'm saying is lionel's release is just as impresive if not more impressive than mike's. mike didnt create/write all those songs. he definately had a hand in making the album, probably a huge hand, but quincy jones was the mastermind behind it. lionel, on the other hand, was the main producer/composer/writer on his album. lionel CREATED that album. im pretty sure....
