Okay, I've been listening to some of his stuff, and watching a few video's and I've tried..... but I can't seem to find the reason why he's considered to be amazing. And Why his albums are considered "classic". Can any D'angelo fan give me a rundown of why you think he's so great? I want to like him, but I just think he's overrated. Anyone?

He's boring. The only neo-soul artist worth a damn is Maxwell.

Do we have any fans of him here?

What about your boy Raheem DeVaughn Guru? Eric Benet?

I go back and forth on DeVaughn. Would you consider Benet neo-soul?

Haha I was just thinking Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and that whole crew and was like meh, kinda bland.

I would consider Benet neo-soul. Dwele, Kem, Anthony Hamilton, Jaheim (Urban neo-soul?) and Alicia Keys.

However, I really don't even know what Neo-Soul neans anymore because I heard some people argue Brian McKnight is neo. Before it was artists who's music had 60/70s influence ex. Jaheim uses a lot of classic soul music arrangements.

I gotcha. Though in truth, I do find a lot of Benet's music to be pretty boring. I LOVE Hurricane but I hear a lot of random songs by him where I'm like meh, it's ALRIGHT.

How do you feel about all the artists in neo-soul?

I like Anthony Hamilton, Eric B., Maxwell, Dwele, Alicia Keys(not her new album), and even Kem.... but D'angelo sounds like he's just tryin too hard to bring back that 60's/70's vibe.

The artists in neo-soul are only so-so to me. I'm not a big fan of the genre, I can understand why they would draw some influence from the classics but it just doesn't seem the same. For example, if I hear the classic soul ballads and compare it to a neo-soul artist. It's like the passion and the "feel" of the music is off. Somebody like John Legend of Raphael Saadiq are commendable for wanted to keep the old sound alive but I just find it boring and bland. I don't really know how to explain it.

I think D'Angelo first album was very good, but he hasn't done much for him to be considered overrated. He that 2nd CD, I don't have that one

I wouldn't throw Benet in the neo category. Everyone but Maxwell, Dwele, and Raheem are the only good neo soul artists, period. D'Angelo is straight lame.

Whew, I'm glad you saved him from the fires of neo-soul
