d0rk 2008-07-30 18:30:38 Total Posts: 359 | maybe? hard to find artists that are doing the neo-soul thing, because the songs i hear on the radio heavily influenced with more synthesizer, voicebox, or whatever they use sound. (think t-pain's annoying voice on his songs) but, let me introduce you to Chester Gregory (myspace.com/chestergregory), a friend from Switzerland told me about and listen to the song Search In :)

R&B Guru 2008-10-17 11:38:26 Total Posts: 2527 | Agreed, I'm not a big fan of neo-soul. Maxwell's pretty good though.
lpc26 2008-10-17 19:02:36 Total Posts: 732 | Jill Scott and Erykah Badu is out there somewhere making music. They both are considered Neo-Soul.
JohnnyAwesome24 2008-10-18 11:15:45 Total Posts: 1928 | Both are EXTREMELY overrated. Badu is HORRIBLE and Jill Scott is nothing but a nice voice.
Moofu 2008-10-18 12:44:17 Total Posts: 725 | Damn Johnny you seem hard to please.. lol What about Raheem Devaughn? Musiq?
JohnnyAwesome24 2008-10-19 09:51:12 Total Posts: 1928 | I am picky, I don't consider Raheem Neo really, and I love him btw. Musiq is GARBAGE, his singing is about as good as his vision.

junebug18 2008-10-19 18:50:51 Total Posts: 540 | I really don't like the term "neo-soul". Neo soul. Its basically the same as R&B to me, just not as mainstream as it should be and less of a pop feel towards it. Anyways, I'm gonna give my opinions on the artists named so far: Maxwell - He's real good, 1st album is classic and the other 2 are solid. D'Angelo - (Nobody mentioned him yet) Same as Maxwell, Classic 1st album, solid 2nd album. Musiq - I used to like him more, but now, I still do, but not like before. He got a solid album (aijus..) and a real good one (Juslisen) and two average ones. He ain't that good vocally, but usually makes good songs....well, he used to. Jill Scott - She's nice, but i cant get into her like that, just the singles. She got a good voice. John Legend - I agree Moofu, he sux, but 'Ordinary People' is a hell of a song tho. Erykah Badu - She aight, got her 1st album and the rest is singles, sometimes she too weird for me tho. Her newest album was very strange. Raheem - He's nice with it. Both albums are very good. He sings with passion and like he's doing it all for the love of music. I don't really consider him "neo-soul" either. I agree with JohnnyAwesome24. Tony Toni Tone & Mint Condition (especially the Tonyies)- are usually known as the innovators of 90's "neo-soul" (damn, i hate that term so much) this decade since they were the most creative, didn't follow trends, and were able to blend in different elements and genres of jazz, funk, old soul along with modern R&B and were still able to find success. Also the use of live in-studio instrumentation on their songs helped them solidify them as leaders of the 90's neo-soul movement. (listen to tracks like "10 million strong" (Mint in 93) or "I couldn't keep it to myself" (Tonyies in 1993). Once maxwell and d'angelo came in the game in the mid 90's, they took it even further by making their entire album sound like it was a 70's album. This popularized this sub-genre even more and Max/D'angelo were mainly credited for it. LOL. Sorry for the little history lesson, but overall is neo-soul dead? I'd say it's on life support... just like R&B.
