I've heard from a few different places that Freddie Jackson never really liked Luther Vandross for some reason.... anyone know why?

Luther probably made a pass on him or something. I have heard the same thing, only I heard it was mutual.

If I was to guess, Freddie might have been jealous that Luther was always able to maintain a stronger commercial success/received more public recognition.

I can't imagine a pass or anything. IF Luther was homosexual, he was very private about it and so I couldn't imagine him eyeing his fellow singers :).

They had a rivalry in the 80s. I doubt Luther made a pass at him because he was quite closeted about it.

Lol it was a JOKE. Luther was def gay but whatever. I don't think we should be too quick to jump on the jealousy train, "You Are My Lady" and "Rock Me Tonight" are just as good as any song luther made.

Yeah GURU got it. There was a beef between them. That's when the male solo R&B singer competition was getting heavy: Alexander O'Neal, Peabo Bryson, James Ingram, Freddie, Jeffrey Osborne etc...and Freddie was getting all the number ones and shine, but started to decline after his 3rd or 4th album or so. Luther was out before Freddie anyways but his success just continued to escalate until he took all the shine from Freddie. I like his music just as much as Luther's anyway. "Do Me Again" is my shit.

Kinda similar to Prince vs. Michael Jackson

I think Jeffrey is better than all of those 80's male singers.

Freddie was tight and I love a lot of his stuff (You guys didn't even mention my favs "Main Course" and "A Little Bit More."). Still, I think Luther had a lot more quality stuff. At least, Luther's quality continued for a much longer period.

Jeffrey Osborne was very underrated "On The Wings Of Love", "Congratulations" and "You Should Be Mine" are classics. Can't forget his stuff with L.T.D. either "love ballad" is one of my favs from the 70s.

Ah that's right. I forgot that's where I knew his name from. Love Ballad was real tight.

Jeffrey Osborne is my second favorite male singer after Johnny G. Okay maybe he is tied for second with TP.

I'm probably going to bang my head after you answer but TP? I assume that's not short for T-Pain :-p

Yeah Jeffrey is nice. The only thing I didn't like about him is that he should of toned down the amount of uptempos a bit. But I'd take him over Billy Ocean & James Ingram easily. The rest of the 80's era male soul singers are all debatable.

But if we talking strictly vocals, I'd say Jeffrey is the 3rd best on that list after Luther and James Ingram. You could probably argue Jeffrey for 2nd though.

Oh wait there's Teddy P too. Damn...that's just too much. lol.
