R&B Guru 2009-04-20 20:10:16 Total Posts: 2527 | Worse than interludes, I hate when rappers appear on tracks. Here I am listening to a solid song when a rapper comes on and just vomits all over it. It stinks and there's no way to remove it from the song. For me, my latest experience with this was Love in This Club by Usher. What are some you guys think of? Any GOOD rap appearances?

I feel like, if they can actually add something to the creative vibe of the track, then its ok in some situations. But this is not the case 99% of the time. Artist just throw random rappers on tracks just to say "I did a track with so & so", probably for promotional purposes. IMO, it just shows that the artist is weak and cant hold down an album on their own. This problem relates back to what Tony Rich was saying about the difference between collaborations and features. Unfortunately, most Rnb/Rap collabs fall in the "features" category. One "rapper" who bothers the **** out of me in particular is Jermaine Dupri who seriously needs to be hit in the mouth for thinking he's a good rapper. Back in the day, he was all over the place. He was on like 3 tracks on "8701" and a bunch of other albums. A few verses I can think of right now that I like is Method Man's on Dru Hill's "This is How We Do"(but I'm bias because I"m a Wu-Tang fan). Dwele & Slum village have 2 or 3 songs together and I feel they have good chemistry together. In general RnB artist shouldnt feature rappers though.

Buddha 2009-04-20 23:15:39 Total Posts: 517 | I completely agree with the JD comment. I don't mind it when he does it for certain songs but when I'm listening to an album (Mariah's for example) and all I hear is him going "uhhh uhhhh", it completely kills the vibe for me. Same goes for Missy Elliott. Yes it's good to know you the song, but you don't have to be all over the track. Same goes for Diddy. I think the only person I can stand when they do that kind of stuff is Timbaland.

Havok214 2009-04-23 07:05:51 Total Posts: 407 | Babyface & LL Cool J "This is For The Lover in You" was a good collab IMO. I thought the LL feature was well placed and he actually added something to the track.

lpc26 2009-05-02 04:06:21 Total Posts: 735 | I kind of agree, some R&B and rap callabos are alright. Like Jon B ft. 2Pac- "are you still down" now that was a great callabo. Anything with LL Cool J on it is a good callabo. The music nowadays the R&B artists feel like they have to have a rapper on to make the song hot. Like Jamie Foxx- "blame it on...." ft. T-Pain. I thought it was T-Pain song, but Jamie is sounding so much like T-Pain I can't stand it. I agree that Mariah is starting to do it alot in her songs also. Back then in the 90's she used to didn't do that, now she feels like she have to have a rapper on everything she does.

Drethegenius 2009-05-03 10:14:49 Total Posts: 11 | Not as bad as clueless DJ's screaming all over tracks. Like Kay Slay for example. Absolute waste of time. Obviously rap cameos these days aren't as exquisite like the 90s. Monifa feat Heavy D for example has to go down as one of the greatest combinations ever or even Mary J feat LL Cool (All night long)
lpc26 2009-05-03 11:22:06 Total Posts: 735 | Just to ask how do you feel about when R&B singers are featured on rappers songs? My favorite R&B songs featuring rappers are: Aaliyah ft. DMx- "back in one piece" TLC- "something wicked this way comes" (I love that song to) Allure ft. LL Cool J- "never question" Allure ft. Nas- "head over heels" Total ft. BIG- "can't you see" 112 ft. BIG- "Only you" Keyisha Cole ft. 2Pac- " Jon B ft. 2 pac- "are you still down" Donell Jones ft. left Eye- "you know what's up" Mariah Carey ft. Da Brat (any song with those two are good)
