This is a thread dedicated to those classic groups from the 60's and 70's.

I am going to lead off with the Manhattans, I LOVE Gerald Alston's voice. I have to say, they trump all of the other old timers to me.

Gerald Alston is amazing. The Manhattens chose him because his voice was similiar to the late great Sam Cooke. Gotta love "Kiss and Say Goodbye", "Shining Star" and "There's No Me Without YOu."

They were good, but I don't think they quite matched up to the Motown groups such as Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, The Tempts, The Tops, Jr Walker and The Allstars, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, The Marvelettes and The Surpremes.

Also, can't forgot that philly sound of the 70s.
the Stylistics, Delfonics and the Spinners.

Funk/Disco groups: Earth Wind and Fire, Isley Brothers, Chic, The Five Stairsteps, 5th Dimension.

Other mentionables: The Drifters, Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose, The Emotions, The Mad Lads and The Dells

I've actually been REALLY checkin out some oldschool lately. I mean, I always collected it, but lately its all I've been listening to.

I love Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder of course. I've also been checkin the Gap Band, Switch, Debarge, and Earth Wind and Fire lately. Theres so much out there its overwhelming. It drives me crazy beause I want it all.

Prince, you can't listen to all of his music in one day. And Janet is my favorite classic artist I can listen to her all day long.

I don't consider any females classic until they get to the point where I would not do them anymore. Janet did get huge, but last I checked she was still hittable.

Although her time is almost up.

I've pretty much come to the conclusion that you can pick any random/obscure classic artist and they will be worth listening to.

lol. This goes back to the discussion on boyz ii men/new editoin. After an artist gets old enough, people just remember their hits. So you can basically take EVERY artist, pick their best song, and here we are. With old school artists, they've had the time to get that opportunity.
