I am going to lead off with the Manhattans, I LOVE Gerald Alston's voice. I have to say, they trump all of the other old timers to me. Gotta love "Kiss and Say Goodbye", "Shining Star" and "There's No Me Without YOu." They were good, but I don't think they quite matched up to the Motown groups such as Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, The Tempts, The Tops, Jr Walker and The Allstars, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, The Marvelettes and The Surpremes. Also, can't forgot that philly sound of the 70s. the Stylistics, Delfonics and the Spinners. Funk/Disco groups: Earth Wind and Fire, Isley Brothers, Chic, The Five Stairsteps, 5th Dimension. Other mentionables: The Drifters, Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose, The Emotions, The Mad Lads and The Dells Gerald Alston is amazing. I love Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder of course. I've also been checkin the Gap Band, Switch, Debarge, and Earth Wind and Fire lately. Theres so much out there its overwhelming. So you can basically take EVERY artist, pick their best song, and here we are. With old school artists, they've had the time to get that opportunity. lol.
