What do you all think of intro or interludes on CDs?

I was listening to 2 of Janet Jackson CDs (I think she is the interlude queen) most of her CDs consist of nothing but interludes. Anyways, I don't see what the point in interludes or intros myself. Some intros or interludes I don't mind, but some of them are a waste of CD and can have a song in it's place.

I think they are just a waste of CD space. they couldn't think of any more songs to put on so they put that garbage.

I don't mind musical or vocal interludes showcasing talent or has something to do with the concept of the cd. But interludes/intros/outros with just talking or something irrelevant is what I don't like.

As long as the interludes have a purpose, then I'm fine with it. Janet Jacksons interludes piss me off though lol.

Generally, its annoying as hell. One good example of interludes messing up albums is Jodeci's "The Show, After Party, Hotel" album. I mean damn, half the album was interludes. I know they was going for a certain concept but when it comes down to it, I just wanna hear the music. There should be like ONE INTERLUDE MAXIMUM on any album.

The most annoying thing ever is when an artist puts an interlude on the same track as the actual song. The best example of this I can think of is on the album version of Intro's "Come Inside", the track is 8 min and 10 seconds long because they have an interlude before AND after the song. Annoying as hell if you want to put the song on repeat, you have to sit through all the talking.

Another annoying thing I hate is when you hear an interlude that could have actually been a song. Some good examples are Mint Condition's "Devotion", Jodeci's "Fallin" or Usher's "Without You". All of these tracks sounded good enough to be actual tracks yet they were cut down to interludes.

^^cosign this post. but i dont mind the intro "come inside". id rather that than the track split into two where i would be skipping that entire intro with the door bell etc.

Thanks for you all replies so far. I have to agree with most of you all. I know some interludes that could have been songs to or have been made into a song. Faith Evans "stay" interlude on "Keep The Faith" album, 112 ended up putting the whole song of "stay" on their album. I like Mariah Carey "daydream" interlude, it wasn't really a song it lasted like 1:58 seconds I believe, but it could have been a song.

I agree with the Jodeci "The show, the hotel, after party" album. I hated all those intros and interludes.

Damn Havok, you spoke true words there. I agree on all points. Interludes on the track = AWFUL for replay value, and good interludes = AWFUL when I wish they'd become a song.

The problem with interludes is even if they complement the album's meaning (a la - Tony Rich's on Pictures details the concept of pictures being captured moments of a relationship), they are only nice once or twice and then you just gotta skip em every time. So it would be better if they just avoided it all together and made the album speak for itself, or put this stuff in the liner notes.

I would consider Solo's oldies as interludes though and those are amazing/wish they were longer.

I kno that on lyfe jenning's first two albums, he has an interlude between every song that has him telling a story. It brings an interesting plot-line to the albums and connects each song accordingly. I'm kinda glad he didnt do that for his third album though, it was getting redundant.

I don't have Lyfe other two albums but I do have that first one I remember all those interludes. Lauryn Hill album did the same thing like after almost every song she would have an interlude.

Yea, I was actually thinking bout Lyfe's album when I wrote my post. What he did is really cool as it adds more soul to his music and adds flesh to what he sings about. However, it's only cool the first two or three times you hear it and then it gets annoying skipping it every time. That's why I wish they'd do that more as liner notes.

Can we just agree that interludes are gay?

Lol, yea. My main grievance is how much they waste the potential of the album booklet. Artists almost never put anything in there, except for the names of the tracks as well as the by lines for it. Most don't even include the lyrics. I would love to hear more personal insight into the tracks and move interludes into there.

I don't know, how many albums can you name where the album booklet actually has something of interest?

I will have to agree with you guys, I've never been a fan of the interludes as well. The only album where it was ok was Destiny's Child "Writings On the Wall" because it was like a Mafia story. Like lpc said Janet is the only one I know that has a lot of them constantly.

@ILikeIt I have that Destiny's Child album and I do like that first interlude "writings on the wall" and then in between songs they did a little thing "thou shall not hate, thou shall not cheat, and etc".

I can agree with R&B Guru about the album cover booklet, I have seen alot of R&B artists with a few thank you notes and about a paragraph of who wrote what song and composed ir or whatever. The rest may be filled with pictures.
