What I'm trying to say is after this decade is over how do you think music will turn out for 2010-2019?

I'm hoping it will turn out like it did in the 90's. So far it seem like the artists from the 80's and 90's is trying to make comebacks so maybe 90's music will have it chance to shine again.
As for the music Tv networks, I'm hoping BET will make a change and get rid of 106 & Park and bring back something similar to Video Soul or Planet Groove.

Well I think it goes in cycles. So I have faith that the next decade will have more quality music.

I'm gonna be straight with you though. As negative/pessamistic as it might sound, I don't expect any of the reunions to really hit it off huge. It's going to be a lot like J.Poww said. These artists will be independent so they will be far more low key going forward. A lot of these returning artists will probably NEVER get radio play, and will NEVER be huge again, I just hope their music upholds a certain level of quality and that enough of a market checks it out to keep it coming.

Still, I am curious to see where things go. I think we'll be stuck in this club sound for a while more but will see a new major artist slowing things down a lot, which will get music moving back in that direction. It's all a pendulum. Right now we're at the one extreme, and it will slowly start swinging back the other way.

As long as Akon, T-Pain, & Lil Wayne are still putting out their garbage. Horrid!

Well, last year in another forum another r&b lover and I both said that that year (2008) would be a great year in r&b music. I didn't see it accomplished.. not even close! But hey, new decade, new things.. who knows.

With everyone into computers & internet nowadays, they're going digital.. marketing everything online (like releasing albums exclusively for download on iTunes ie, Bobby Valentino released a 6 track album on iTunes called Come With Me), singing up for different music sites to upload their music and have them being heard from there. Its tough being heard in the music world now, one day your song is a hit single.. then you maybe shelved next week and everyone will forget.

Usher is coming out with a new album soon so hopefully he'll kill T-Pain, Akon and the rest of them.

Usher's "Here I Stand" album didn't perform well by Usher standards so he's making an album right now and main focus is just creating the best music possible.

Here's a snippet of what he's working with right now (starts at 2:30)

i think usher can make an impact if his album:

A) Goes back to like Confessions or My Way in the fact that it stays true to real r&b while having a wide appeal.

B) Gets alot of play on radio.

C) The right singles are picked.

usher can be a positive start to a new decade.

Agreed. Usher has the fan base and the legacy to keep things moving.

The impact of the Internet is something I've been waiting to see though. So far, there's been a lot of war between the major labels and the nets but hopefully in the next decade, more labels/artists will embrace it.

The net is going to win this war I promise you that. But I agree with you guys Usher's album will be better if all of the items listed above are done.

Usher (and other vets) will definitely help steer R&B in the right direction but none of them are getting any younger. Hopefully Usher can pass the torch to somebody that will continue the true R&B legacy and not ruin it with autotuning.

Chris Brown would have been that guy but his career is pretty much over now, plus his music was ass anyways. I can see Trey Songz being the next star. His first album was really good and his second one was okay too. As long as he stays in the R&B lane and not try to rap on every song, he should be fine.

Chris Brown? Steer music back to its course? I dont know, he seems to be one of the leaders of autotune.

Unless you meant he would have been the representative of R&B for a while, in which case, I agree with that.

I guess I'm the only that thought Usher latest albums was pretty good. I would say it was pretty equal to Confessions. I agree that in the next decade Usher can carry that torch. He seem to have been going strong for all both decades so far.

I've always wondered, but I'm surprised that Mint Condition is still going strong along with Eric Benet and Maxwell. I guess they aren't ready to give up.

R&B Guru I have to agree with what you said in your first post.

Usher's album album was pretty good but it didn't have enough singles material.

actually, usher's album was amazing, just not as versatile as confessions. he did what artists are supposed to do...take chances... didnt pay off..except in the eyes of real rnb fans :)

as for trey songz, he doesnt have near the talent of kelz, ush, etc. he doesnt write or compose his own music... if usher's gonna pass the torch, so far i'd give it to ne-yo. he makes real r&b music that is also pop-friendly and writes for others. he's like a babyface(not nearly as good though lol). im confident we'll see more faces like his, eric b, dwele, etc. come out soon.
