R&B Guru 2008-07-24 10:15:06 Total Posts: 2527 | Agreed. That sounds like a challenge though June. Anybody have any suggestions? It's a challenging one though because it depends how much "in their prime" they had to be in the 90s. Anthony Hamilton came out in the 90s but really did his thank in the 2000s. But again, I wouldn't call that his prime. I'm gonna start digging around and see if anyone applies.

iluv90srnb 2008-07-24 10:29:22 Total Posts: 36 | The thing I like about Usher is that he has followed up each album with something better. Even though I consider Here I Stand on the same level as Confessions, Usher has not dropped off.
Sonofsoul 2008-07-24 11:18:41 Total Posts: 212 | What about Brian McKnight? I mean he didn't make anything BETTER than Anytime or Back At One (albums), but, IMO, U Turn and Ten are better than, say, Superhero (except Love of My Life). In all I would say Sir Knight is not in the prime in terms of popularity, but his skill and talent certainly are still there and have not slide. Even Gemini is good if you lsiten to it with the right set of ears (i.e. he was going for a more "adult" sound and feel). Also, Eric Benet. To me, he never had a "prime" as he has always been underrated. But, his first two albums, which are great, are not as good as Hurricane, which is AWESOME. I haven't checked to see if he wrote the songs...but the lyrics are up there with the best.. PLEASE give him a listen...stroll on over to the Videos section and check out I Wanna Be Loved, Georgy Porgy, Spend My Life (w/ Tamia), Let's Stay Together, and When You Think of Me (BTW Guru the name of that video for Eric Benet "When You Love Me" should be "When You Think of Me")

R&B Guru 2008-07-24 11:29:11 Total Posts: 2527 | Don't worry. I'd thought of Brian McKnight :). I just figured even if he's still on the top of his game, he hasn't surpassed his 90s stuff. So while U Turn and Ten are the stuff, he's punished for making Anytime and Back at One so good :). Usher's a good one, I hadn't thought of him. And Eric Benet... well, for me I've only ever listened to Hurricane :). I'll fix the video name now though, thanks.
bunky1787 2008-07-24 11:32:04 Total Posts: 440 | Gotta agree to a point about Mcknight. His song STILL(Superhero) is just genius(both in lyrical content and melody). I think it's a great "sequel" to BACK AT ONE that has a little more meaning. He might be one of the few artists that won't lose his musical gift as he gets older(i.e. Kelz).

lpc26 2009-08-04 19:17:13 Total Posts: 732 | I love Moncia back in the 90's and "After the storm" was alright but it wasn't the best. I don't even have her last album. Usher my favorite album of his is "USHER" that is a classic album. His others after that one are pretty good You guys forgot about Brandy. Brandy came out when she was about 15 as well and she did a great job on all her CDs and she kept it the same Brian McKnight is amazing and I finally have "superhero" and can't stop listening to it. I love Back At One and Anytime both are great records.
R&B Guru 2009-08-04 20:43:56 Total Posts: 2527 | I like how this thread went from Monica to being purely about what artists have gotten better with age. lpc, I'm with you on Superhero. I bought it recently and it's funny, at first I only listened to it for Still and Love of My Life. However, now I play Everything, My Kinda Girl, and Get Over You religiously. Solid album if you listen to it through.

R&B Guru 2009-08-05 05:50:18 Total Posts: 2527 | LOL, I agree. After watching him at the BET awards I just cried. Not that I ever LIKED his voice as I've said before, but still, his current sound is enough to make angels weep.
