Jermaine88 2009-03-22 22:11:19 Total Posts: 298 | Jodeci, Dru Hill, Boyz II Men, Jagged Edge, Blackstreet, 112 minus Michael Keith, Montell Jordan, Case, Ready For The World, Riff, Men Of Vizion, Rude Boys, Levert (well Marc Gordon and Gerald Levert's replacement after his death Blaq Rose)they along with Sean finished a Levert Reunion album before Sean died so Marc and Blaq Rose are still gonna release it, Troop, Silk, Shai, Michael Jackson, New Edition split into two groups right now Bell Biv DeVoe is coming and also the new spinoff group from NE Heads Of State with Bobby, Ralph, and Johnny, H-Town, Hi-Five is getting back together to do a tribute album to their late lead singer Tony Thompson something similar that Marc Gordon is putting together for Gerald and Sean Levert, Intro is coming with the remaining two living members Jeff Sanders and Clinton "Buddy" Wilke and new lead singer K. Quinn who replaced the late Kenny Greene who died from AIDS in 2001. H-Town didn't replace Dino so Shazam and G.I. are going on as a duo, Silk is coming with all five members but their might be some drama because John-John the other lead besides Lil G barely shows up to the group's concerts. They did a few shows and only Lil G who recently returned to the group, Big G, Timzo, and Jimmy showed up and they were seen talking about the new album coming and they were working in the studio and John-John was no where to be seen. Then they did another interview and they had another person named Tony being interviewed with the other four so maybe they got fed up with John-John and replaced him we shall see on their new album they are either gonna have the original five or all except John-John or Tony as a replacement for John-John and Tony is a young dude so he's younger than the other members of Silk.
R&B Guru 2009-03-22 22:22:22 Total Posts: 2527 | Jermaine. I really need you to answer this post for the sake of the site. Do you press enter between ANY sentences when you post or do you just type big blobs? I'm not saying it to make fun of you (even though your blobs are annoying), but because I want to make sure it's not a bug in my coding. I've been in talks with H-Town for a while but I always drop the ball on doing an interview. Still, it should be done (with a request for questions) coming up in the next two weeks. Also, I'm worried about Hi-Five sans Tony Thompson... listening to the group here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlqFKs88FFw They really don't sound well together. Not sure if they got better with time but their harmonies just don't work.
Moofu 2009-03-23 17:34:06 Total Posts: 725 | I've heard rumours that Tony was the only singing, that means lead and background. Can anyone confirm this? I know on "I Can't Wait Another Minute" another person is singing thats NOT Tony.
Havok214 2009-03-23 18:14:51 Total Posts: 407 | ^^^I heard that Tony went on the Wendy Williams show and said that not only did he sing all the lead vocals, but he sang ALL the background vocals too. However, the only source for this is Wendy Williams and she doesnt quite have a reputation for spitting truthful information. I wouldnt be surprised if he sang MOST of the background though. There was only like 1 or 2 songs where someone else sang lead vocals besides Tony. After hearing that, its pretty easy to tell why Tony did the other 99% of leads. I dont understand why he wasnt just solo to begin with.
Moofu 2009-03-24 18:06:27 Total Posts: 725 | It could be because he wasn't comfortable solo.
ilikeit 2009-03-24 18:32:04 Total Posts: 1156 | That was a sad case with what happened to Tony. He was a very good vocalist even with his voice changing. That being said I don't think it would be a good idea for Hi-Five to come out the group died with Tony period. And I would say the same for H-Town.
ilikeit 2009-03-24 18:34:10 Total Posts: 1156 | It's like TLC without Left-Eye it ain't gon happen. Sorry. LOL Good Guru with the harmony thing that you pointed out with Hi-Five they are off.
R&B Guru 2009-03-24 19:48:35 Total Posts: 2527 | Well, to explain the non Tony Thompsons, I'd actually heard a similar rumor that the group hired other people to do their background vocals. Lol, I don't know if it's true though unfortunately.
Jermaine88 2009-03-24 21:24:10 Total Posts: 298 | Treston the one singing lead on the video co lead sings along with Tony on the song. They recorded that song shortly after they did the photo shoots for their first album because Toriano Easley is on the cover but he was arrested shortly after their first video I Just Can't Handle It, he was immediately replaced by Treston Irby before they completed the album but they never changed the album cover.
JohnnyAwesome24 2009-03-25 07:59:39 Total Posts: 1928 | After listening to a bunch of Hi-Five to try and confirm, I think there may be some validity to the Tony Thompson being Hi-Five's everyman theory.
Jermaine88 2009-03-25 10:14:54 Total Posts: 298 | Well Blackstreet is coming back with the Another Level lineup and doing a tour and album he said he wants to get other groups that are returning like BBD, Jodeci, and Dru Hill to do a superfest tour to do a friendly competition. He also said that he and Aaron Hall are back on talking terms and hopefully he can get both is groups Guy and Blackstreet to do a full tour and clear any rumors of animosity between the Hall Brothers and Riley's other group Blackstreet. In the late 80s and early 90s Damion Hall of Guy let Chauncey of Blackstreet stay on his couch because he was Guy's background vocalist but Damion said Chauncey wasn't pulling his weight and kicked Chauncey out so Chauncey told Teddy what happened and Chauncey moved in with Teddy and his family until he got his stuff straight. Teddy and Chauncey were good friends and outside of doing videos and shows Teddy never hung out with Aaron and Damion anymore and they started getting jealous of all the success outside of Guy Teddy was getting and they broke up at a show in 1991 in New York because of ongoing tension during The Future album. He wanted to start a group around Chauncey but was hoping Guy would reunite but they didn't so he decided to put himself in the group and they found Levi Little who was also from Patterson, New Jersey where Chauncey was from. Teddy told Chauncey to go back home to New Jersey from Virginia and find some guys to be in the group so he brought Levi and some other guys and Levi made the group then Teddy brought Joseph Stonestreet in who was singing backup for George Clinton and Zapp and Roger and of course was influenced by them and was great friends with George Clinton and Roger Troutman. Riley used samples from George Clinton with Guy and he saw Stonestreet doing background for both around 1992 and told him he was starting a new group and asked him to be down with the group and Joseph accepted. Teddy wanted him to be the lead singer and their original name was Flavor and started working with other artists they Teddy, Chauncey, Teddy's brother Markell, and rapper Antwone Dickey who rapped on Blackstreet's Booti Call and also co-wrote Before I Let You Go wrote a song called You Got The Flavor but it sounded to poppy Chauncey was originally singing on the song but they said the image wasn't working and wanted t be a street R&B Group and so New Kids On The Block approached Teddy Riley about writing songs for their Face The Music album and he asked them if they wanted to record You Got The Flavor and gave them Blackstreet's demo version with Chauncey on lead and New Kids decided to record it and it's number 2 on their Face The Music album. They wanted to become more street because they all come from different ghettos so they changed their name from Flavor to Stonestreet which was Teddy's idea but Joseph didn't want that to happen because the name only represented him so they decided to put together Chauncey's nickname Black and the last part of Joseph Stonestreet's last name and named themselves Blackstreet instead of Stonestreet. They sang background on Bobby Brown's third solo album Bobby which Teddy produced along with L.A. Reid & Babyface, Demetrius Shipp, Derek Allen, BeBe Winans, and Bobby Brown himself. Joseph Stonestreet left to do his own thing shortly after they came out with Baby Be Mine from the CB4 Soundtrack so Teddy adopted the nickname Street so they could still be Blackstreet. He found Dave Hollister singing background vocals for Mary J. Blige because Dave is cousins with K-CI & JoJo and sang background for Jodeci and K-Ci was dating Mary J. Blige at the time and so Dave also sang background for her too because they were all at Uptown Records. In 1993 Mary along with SWV and TLC opened for Bobby Brown on his Humpin' Around Tour and since Blackstreet was his background singers on some of the songs on the Bobby album they were on the tour also Joseph was also on the tour and left Blackstreet during the tour so during one concert date Mary let Dave Hollister do a step out spot in her show and Teddy saw him and wanted him to join Blackstreet as Stonestreet's replacement and he accepted.
