R&B Guru 2009-02-12 16:48:20 Total Posts: 2527 | So I've been at war with YouTube for a long time now. As you should probably know, I host a lot of my "Best of" videos on Youtube. (See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8erD9B29cLQ&feature=related) Almost all of my videos have been hit with copyright disputes by Google. To each dispute, I file a fair use claim, since I'm only featuring 30 second clips of the tracks being featured. The videos are totally in the realm of promotion and don't serve to replace the track by the artist (unless you really REALLY just like those 30 seconds). Well, today, my first claim of Fair Use was responded to with a rejection and one of my videos has lost its audio. So unfortunately, even though Tony! Toni! Tone! are in the response to the above video, they are no longer able to be listened to. Now why, WHY would a label demand a video like this is taken down?

Havok214 2009-02-13 07:56:31 Total Posts: 407 | They took down some of my vids too. I was planning on makin an all RnB music channel w/ good songs that werent already on youtube. Around the time I got to 20 vids, they started muting/deleting my vids so I just stopped.
R&B Guru 2009-02-13 08:07:28 Total Posts: 2527 | It's funny. They seem to be afraid of the web and don't fully understand its marketing potential. I am almost eager to become a marketer for an artist and show just how much muscle you can flex by using the web. Instead, the artists are represented by these labels that try and choke all promotion of the artists.
JohnnyAwesome24 2009-02-13 08:50:13 Total Posts: 1928 | Lol they see that album sales are down and instead of using the web to sell and market their product, they became major dicks.

ilikeit 2009-02-13 10:00:09 Total Posts: 1156 | They don't want to choke it don't be silly they want to control it so they can make huge profits.
ilikeit 2009-02-13 10:03:52 Total Posts: 1156 | They are afraid of the internet because it takes the middle man out of the picture. Labels get their money by saying that they are the ones who promote the artist. If the artist used the internet and people like you and I to promote they don't need the music biz. Then if that happened you won't have artist making pennies on the dollar like they do know. You do the math.
R&B Guru 2009-02-13 10:50:24 Total Posts: 2527 | Yea, but ilikeit, what's controlling it? Cutting off the distribution of music videos on YouTube? That's hurting their sales. Cutting down on sites allowing you to preview tracks? The problem is, they don't fully understand it. I think you're more on point with your second post. They see the Internet as the removal of their role. It's like outsourcing, only it's not foreign countries taking the jobs, it's the internet. June, you're talking the way I'm feeling. These companies are trying to put a noose around youtube, rather than understand how they can use it to their full advantage. Johnny... exactly brother. They feel threatened so they just start swinging.
