Hey R&B Guru...if you can embed it that would be great...everybody should check out the videos and also their album "Cheers 2 U"...

Some info about Playa you may or may not know:
- The one in black is the same dude on that Lollipop track with Lil Wayne (RIP Static)
- They were under Devante's Swingmob label back in the day along with Timbaland, Ginuwine, Missy...you can hear some Jodeci in them in my opinion.

Part 1 (All The Way, Together, I-65)

Part 2 (Everybody Wanna Luv Somebody, Ribbon In The Sky (Stevie Wonder), Lately (Jodeci), Ms Parker, A Gospel)

Part 3 (Don't Stop The Music (1st single), Cheers 2 U (2nd single)

Take a listen and tell me what you guys think :) I think they did a hell of a job on "Together", "Ribbon In The Sky", "Lately" and "Cheers 2 U"

Thanks for posting all this about Playa. I miss Playa I have their album "cheers 2 U" and all the songs on that track are hot. I remember their performance on Planet Groove I had recored it on vhs tape from back then. I agree with you about the Jodeci part I think Jodeci is one of their musical influences.

So how much were these guys going to ripp off Jodeci. I mean what kind of long lasting career are going to have, by bitting off Jodeci.

@ ilikeit...they were under Devante for like 6 years. So of course they're going to have some Jodeci influence (just listen to Ginuwine's first album, the whole vibe is Jodeci) Plus Dru Hill was pretty successful at biting Jodeci lol

@ lpc...I agree with you, that Cheers 2 U was hot. It's a shame they were the only one in Timbaland's camp that didn't garner huge success. I don't think people were ready for their sound yet. I mean if you listen to the album today, it doesn't sound dated at all.

I love that performance. I like the song better live than I do the recorded version. Solid group.

What do you think of the performances Guru? And Playa in general (I'm assuming you've checked out their album since the last topic >_>)

Anyways one of the members of the group Smokey (dude in brown) is active on youtube and myspace and all of that stuff and since this is an R&B site...we could probably interview him (on the work he did under Jodeci, Playa stuff and his solo stuff) and post it on the site. He relies fairly quickly whenever I message him.

Buddha, I enjoy their tracks though I could see them as a bit of a Jodeci knock off but they were pretty solid. I love that woman's accent in the video, it's so ridiculous.

And I am thinking of doing a 90s R&B Guy Group massive "Where Are They Now" to market to the major networks, so I'm definitely going to hit up Smokey.

Right now, I've done:
Riff, UNV, After 7

I have lined up:
H-Town

and I'm going to be contacting:
Troop, All 4 One, Az Yet and Playa

This is one of the few groups I think sound better live than they do in the studio.

Johnny, that's what I really love about 90s R&B groups. I felt like Boyz II Men was the same way when I saw them. Like these guys can SING. They don't need studios to touch up their sound, they can do it on their own.

Yeah it is cool that they can actually sing, but I am saying that I don't like Playa's recordings much. Listening to them live is like listening to an entirely different group.

ah I gotcha. What don't you like about their recordings? Too lifeless?

Here's a video that really shows how much Jodeci influenced Playa's music...lol

Fun fact: Game Face by Kci and JoJo was written by Static of Playa
