i'm liking track 10 - always be my baby, and all the tracks behind it. the other more uptempo tracks are good too 'when ur lovin' me', etc. pretty awesome record nowadays. i like how he kept some of his old sounds, while experimenting with new C:
Honestly, New Edition's work as an R&B group is really overstated. Most of their early work was very boy band/pop-esque. It was only with Heartbreak that they really came into R&B. And if you look, after that they didn't release ANY albums for what, 8 years? They've really only had three R&B albums over a 20 year period. How can you say they're better than Boyz II Men given those specs?
To be honest Guru, I dont really hold the "kiddy" era against them. I mean....they were kids after all. They grew up and got better and then were able to branch off into more success, creating a lasting imprint on RnB. They were one of the most popular groups of the 80's so its hard to bring up that era without bringing up NE. I guess you didnt feel their "adult" albums but I think "Heart Break" at least deserves the credits its usually given.
On to get this topic back on track:
Deborah Cox >>>> Beyonce
R. Kelly and Usher are hella OVERrated
Chante Moore is hella UNDERtated
Joe > R.Kelly & Usher
Keith Washington is a top 5 male soloist of the 90's.
In general, slow jams > uptempos(I got nothing aginst them though)
It's just, to call them a driving force in R&B seems like a misnomer. Their kiddy stuff was straight pop. I also never said I don't like their adult albums, Heartbreak is tight. I was just saying they don't have A LOT of adult albums. Given the praise they get, you would think they would have had more albums under that style.
