In a similar note of label disputes killing the industry, Dru Hill cited contract issues as the reason they've been silent the last two years. Whether that's true or whether it's because of disputes with Woody/Skola (who have left the group), I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's label stuff. If you haven't seen it, here's an interview with the guys recently: http://www.gardelino.com/webzine/?p=105

It's a sickening interview as I talked about with Soul last night. The guys are drunk, and outrageously obnoxious. Still, they do give some useful information. Worth checking out.

I just saw the footage. I'm at a lost for words. But let me say this. How can you say you're the best you've ever been when you havn't dropped your album yet? Secondly you can still see the pride and a group will never last with that ego and pride. Third they don't sound like men they sound more like boys they really need to grow up. Even though they are drunk I'm not impressed with the new member. And that Lately was a joke sorry I won't be buying the new album that utter foolishness. We too grown for that! Grow the hell up please Dru hill!

I hear you on that ilikeit. I don't understand their claims either, especially considering they've only been in their current state of four members for about two months now. Guess it doesn't take long when you're the best :).

But yea, I thought the new guy could sing pretty good, though he started to sound real weak at the end I thought. Really, what turned me off was the way he just sorta took over acting like he owned the place and broke out in song. Like dude, sit down for real.

Yea. I'm seeing them in concert in early September (Anyone going to the concert in Westbury, NY, let me know!). While I'm a little dismayed after seeing them in the video, the concert should be wild. It's got Ginuwine and Dru, plus potential special appearances by Jeff Redd, Carl Thomas and Christopher Williams. So even if Dru's fallen off, the rest of the guys will show em how it's done :)

Wow. LOL @ the clip. Thats hilarious. Damn, they was tipsy, but they was sangin' tho so it was kinda enjoyable to watch.

Its sad to hear that tho, and i have a feeling this album ain't coming out at all, just like the "next Jodeci album".

The new dude can sing, but he don't fit in the group. I don't know man, from watching this video, I think they are done, but we'll have to see what their "album" (if it ever comes out) is gonna sound like.

Sadly, I'll probably get the album if it's of any quality. I'm gonna have to peep it first, but I liked Dru's old stuff too much to let it pass. Still, I won't be happy while doing it because of all this :).

Hah, exactly. I guess it's just the challenge of keeping your opinions of artists personal life separate from there music. I know R Kelly's diggin on little girls, no matter what the jury rules, but I'm still gonna listen to his jams if their good. In much the same way, I'm gonna keep listening to the Dru if they put out smooth R&B tracks. It's just, a little part of me will die in the process :).

Well, sadly, it seems our fears may have some base. I read a review of a concert they put on in Baltimore at http://www.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/custom/today/bal-to.dru21jul21,0,1324846.story. It basically said the group sounded good, but that their performance was ridiculously self gratifying and egocentric. The guys would go on several minute long riffs and grab solos and run them into the ground. They also had a lot of prerecorded material where they only sang bits and pieces. Not good, but it better get better before I see them in September :).
