A few days ago we were in the studio with a few artist recording for the new mixtape 10: New Beginnings and the topic of best R&B artist of 2010 came up.

Now were talking consistency and impact on the game. That being said, we believe that in 2010 these artist made both a name for themselves and a big impact on the game itself.

1. Drake
2. Trey Songs
3. John Legend & The Roots
4. Usher
5. Rihanna

If I have to go simply by that list I am afraid I cannot help you. Though I have to admit I do like Trey Songz.... don't judge me people!

Wait... Drake? Is he even allowed in an R&B discussion?

The one I'm definitely disappointed in is Usher. He seems to have just opted for club banger after club banger in his latest release, but I've only heard the songs guys at work send me... so I really don't know.

I think i'll only agree with you on Trey Songz, the rest is like ehhhh. I don't think I can come up with 10, so i'll just list 4 more for my top 5. In no particular order,

calvin richardson
donell jones
keri hilson (i like some of her songs, to me she sounds better than nicki minaj)
letoya tuckett

Usher is a let down. We can hope Jaheim, Maxwell, Calvin Richardson and Joe keep the good stuff coming. Ginuwine as well.

I would actual give NeYo a nod here. I haven't heard much from him lately but his new single "One in a Million" is alright. I mostly give him props because he consistently puts out music that I hear and recognize as R&B (as in not outrageously overproduced with rap features), and it's always fairly listenable.

How did Drake come up in an R&B discussion? While he does sing some of the hooks to his songs, like "Miss Me" and "Best I Ever Had" and others, but he's more rap than he is singing. He actually is a pretty talented person, it takes someone with a lot of common sense and understanding to catch on to his slick metaphors and word play. I think he's actually better than Lil Wayne lol.

But honestly my top 10 list of R&B singers for 2010 would be:

1. Mary J Blige
2. Faith Evans
3. Aaliyah - she's still very popular with today's music
4. Monica
5. Brandy - she still makes music in this day and age.
6. Keyshia Cole
7. Jaheim
8. Maxwell
9. Tank
10. Usher

I don't think Drake really deserve to be on that list.

@Jazzie Lee that is funny you said Aaliyah because I still hear people listening to Aaliyah even young adults from ages 17-22.
