I have to disagree about the writing. If your talking about ad libs, then you might have a point depending on preference. I'd prefer it for his music, cuz it emphasizes the mood of the song. If your talking about songs like Don't Wanna Be A Player, I think for the time that they came out, the lyrics were relevant for how people talked(slang, etc.), whereas now, it might seem dated or corny. Plus on that album, Joe wrote nine of the eleven songs so he didn't have the help creating song concepts that artists usually have with their albums. I'll agree that I would never say some of the things he sings to a woman, or anyone, for that matter, but all in all I think the lyrics to his music are appropriate.(Oh btw, All That I Am is my absolute favorite album of all time, so I HAD to defend it nd him :D)

I got to go with bunky on this one. ad libs yes content of song no. That fact that he says the things to woman us real guys would not say is what makes him stand out. And dont forget its women who buys 90% of the music.

Lol. don't get me wrong, I love that album. All That I Am, Love Don't Make No Sense, All The Things, Love Scene, How Soon, No One Else Comes Close are all great songs and are probably on my playlist more than is healthy (especially Love Don't Make No Sense... that's one of those jams I sorta just stumbled upon one day and fell in love with).

The ad libs are what drive me nuts and so, that's what I'd really been talking about. He just says the most ludicrous things. I'd be listening to a jam, showing people how hot it is, and then he goes off on how "69 is a very good year" or how "I'm not gonna stop til I hear your mother scream." I just feel like he's got such smooth jams and that he smears them with these corny lines.

Think I understand Guru, it's not his songs that you question, but the ad libs make you take a step back nd say "Wat in the blue hell did he just say?... it does even make any sense." Yea kinda funny though :)

Bringing the topic back to duets, (even though I could go on about Joe lol), one of my favorite duets is Babyface and Toni Braxton on How Could An Angel Break My Heart. The original version was fire, but I love the way Babyface plays the role of the guy in one version. It really puts a new spin on the track as you wonder if the guy was really doing wrong or if the girl's just blowing things out of proportions.
