We gotta get other people to join the general discussion Johnny :). It seems like me and you are the only ones who come on this board.
Besides R&B I love to read/write. My schedule this semester is just three creative writing classes so you can get a feel for where my interests lie :).
Honestly, I like to learn. I'm interested in almost any and everything. Biology, math, politics, philosophy, history, psychology etc. So I do a bit of reading.
I feel like the main problems in society stem from people not being properly educated(or not caring enough) about the world and whats going on around them. Everyone feels like they have life figured out but you'd be surprised to find out some things about this world. This is kind of a side that I keep to myself though.
I'm starting to get into activism because I'm incredibly surprised about how little people seem to know about what is going on in the world ex. Darfur, Congo etc. Infact, even past genocides ex. Cambodian, Rwanada and Serbia are unknown to many people.
The saying "ignorance is bliss" is true. I've encountered many people who feel they know everything and really have no idea.

Hey nice to know that we are all a bunch of book worms after all! just kidding and dear Moofu you may have awareness of such calamities but i have endured one for a big part of my life as I am Lebanese & you sure have read about the so many Lebanese wars, in which I've lost many a relative and countless friends, and although all the places you mentioned have had mass Genocides but my country suffered more destruction and on and off wars which never ends since it's start back in 1974 which coincide with my birthyear so I lived my whole life in these conditions and about my interest which comes above reading and music and sport it is definately peace keeping awareness for all the *(&&*%%^#@ in the world killing each other for trivial things.
Good stuff guys. It is amazing how ignorant a lot of people can be and I applaud our pursuit of knowledge.
Moofu, that's all good stuff and I've tried to slowly move more into activisim. I was hoping to attend a protest against California's Proposition 8 last semester but wasn't able to make it unfortuantely.
Gloomy, I'm sorry about your experiences in Lebanon. I've read some about that in magazines when they talk about it as the quiet genocide that doesn't get the same amount fo coverage for some reason. Have you been back to Lebanon in a long time?
Gloomy, that is intense. I too am sorry to hear about what you have endured. It is really unfortunate that these problems are rampant and yet so many are ignorant to these problems.
I am also that activists are given a bad rep by the media labeling them as hippies or what not. Does anyone remember the WTO protest or 1999? It was a peaceful protest yet the news focused on ONE person who was vandalizing...
Dear friends I sincerely convey my thanks for your compassion and I wish that none of you experience such calamities, my beloved country is lying on top of a dormant volcano fueled by sectarian hatred, and nobody can foresee its eruption, I stayed in it through all the wars but when the last period of political assassination began two years ago it became too hazardous and when one of these blasts took place one block from my office which rocked as if in an earthquake I realized that it was the time for me to leave, and that it's pointless to be killed or maimed for nothing and just for passing near a targeted politician, my cousin whose father was gruesomely killed in the war now lives in Detroit, as does a lot of friends and relatives live scattered in many different countries, due to these circumstances.
Johnny, topics on this board never go where you expect them, that's the beauty of it :).
Gloomy, it's something I wish people would learn and it's something C.S. Lewis has said so well in his books (Til We Have Faces is the one I'm thinking of). People need to stop feeling so much hatred for one another. The problem is that everyone wants to have the last say and it causes such a constant escalation of pain and hate.
Well I dont do ALOT of hardcore studying but I do like to learn stuff for the sake of knowing it. I take alot of the "useless material" I learn in school seriously. It annoys me to see people complain about their lives when there are millions around the world who dont even have shoes on their feet or clean drinking water. I'm sure these people would readily switch lives with the average American anyday.
