And it's live! Here's part 1 of the interview, a LOT of great stuff in it.
First, I recommend everyone at least listen to some of the interview because Keith had a really distinct southern drawl which surprised me at first given his silky smooth singing voice. He also pronounced Kevon's name differently than I have my whole life. I've always viewed it as Kev-in but it actually is pronounced Kev-on (go figure lol).
Second, read the whole piece! I threw some hard hitting questions at Keith and he took all of them in stroke.
To give you a taste, I asked him:
How did it feel being the odd man out in the group, being the only non-Edmonds brother?
Did you ever discuss the option of getting more lead work?
Can you go into the details about what happened there or what led to the group’s splitting?
So check it out!
Not to mention, Keith says something in the interview which caught me off guard... I'll post about it after I hear some of your responses.
Interesting interview, very intelligent man from the sound of it. Nothing really caught my ear as to why you'd be caught off-guard. Was it the fact that he was basically just there for a body?
It's a detail in there that people may or may not find surprising depending how much you're into the group. The group was always the Edmonds brothers and LA Reid's cousin. And then he tells me that he's not related to LA Reid at all and that it was a marketing tool.
I was just like... dang. If you look anywhere, it has him lasted as such (except on wikipedia now as I changed that).
Yea, interestingly, I haven't been able to find out anything about Melvin. I didn't realize it until afterwards but he NEVER mentioned what Melvin's done since the group split.
I'm not sure with Melvin, I don't know if he had some bad blood or what have you. It's been really hard getting a good scoop on him. I don't know if maybe he's just done with the music thing.
But yea, I told Keith to hit me up if they ever come near the Northeast. I'd go a long distance to hear those guys sing again.
Yea, I was surprised it had been kept on the dl for so long. Do you guys think it was a good idea?
I mentioned it in the interview but I got the feeling talking to him that the group was basically like Jodeci since you had the two brothers and then the two other fellows... I feel like branding Keith as LA's cousin helped make the group more look like a family affair.
So I don't know, good idea? Bad idea? Unnecessary?
And as a heads up, they'll be in Atlanta on Valentines Day and Nashville Tennessee on the 15th.
hrm? it's still there! If you go to the front page, it's one of the links! Look for Keith Mitchell. Also, if you go to features you should see it! The interviews never go away!
