Dear R&B lovers
We have gathered here in the realm of this site not just to share thoughts but to contribute to our passion (90's R&B) which is passed its time and maybe the whole R&B genre is dying on the hands of today's R&B wannabees thus we should not stand watching, we should do something, we can start by signing a petition or letters to all past R&B Producers & bands & singers or we may even seek young talented poets to send them some lyrics instead of listening to covers of old hits as is the case of Boyz II Men, or listening to Ruben Studdard tell us how he loves his girl like a fat boy who loves cake (pathetic), or we can plea with Jodeci to regroup instead of making us suffer from listening to KCI & Jojo's not so great attempts at trying to be Barry Manilow, we need there bombastic R rated numbers, am i right?

It shames me to see the direction that R&B music has taken in the last 4-5 years. I honestly think that the largest contributor to R&B's downfall is the popularity of crappy mainstream rap music. Some rappers can be great (Nas, Common, Royce Da 5'9, The Roots), but the majority should never hold a microphone and unfortunately those are the ones who generally get the most fame/recognition. R&B "artists" started using rap producers, lyrics, and subject matter.

Call me a pessimist but I dont think petitions or letters will work. The best we can do is support good artist by buying their albums. Let the artist know that there are still people out there who want to hear their music. Keep these artists in the business.

Yea, while I'd love to change music in that way, I think Havok is closer to the best action. In truth, the best we can do is be activists. When an artist like Eric Benet or Tony Rich puts out a new great cd, play it for friends, hype it up, and buy it yourself. The best way we can show that the music is still alive is with our dollars and by getting our friends to recognize the great music as well. Every now and then, great R&B surfaces, we just need to make sure to embrace it when it does.

And of course, if you'd like to contribute to R&B by helping expand the site's content/membership to show people the genre is alive and well, I'm never opposed to that. :)
