Anyways, in the Dru Hill vs. Boyz II Men poll, I voted Dru because I'd rather listen to them than Boyz II Men. Dru Hills songs are more versatile to me and Boyz II Men is kinda one dimensional. But with that saying, I can't really say that Dru is better than them. Dru is gonna lose because Boyz II Men were more popular and had more sales success etc. and people will look past Dru's music quality and just vote for Boyz II Men. A better poll would be Dru vs. Silk or Tony Toni Tone.

As for versatility, I'm going to have to disagree with you. I'll give you that their upbeat songs are a lot more enjoyable tha BIIM, but as for actual vocal versatility...I have to disagree. If you ever hear a BIIM song acappella and hear their harmonies...holy crap. And Nathan has the most versatility out of anyone in either group. He sings bass now and you REALLY can not tell the difference b/w him and Michael...it's scary. And I love Sisqo his emotion and feeling in songs is awesome and quite noteworthy. But he really only has one note. Not literally, but he's got that famous riff he sings (I call it the Sisqo note) where he goes "yeahhhh-a-a-a-yeah" You know what I mean. He sounds good, but I certainly wouldnt call im more versatile than say Wanya or Shawn. This is not to bash Dru Hill, as I said I love them. Let's not underestimate how popular Dru Hill was though. BIIM were more popular, yes, but you have to look at why that is so. Part of it is the time they came in, but mostly it's simply because they are better
junebug18 2008-07-13 01:44:55 Total Posts: 540 | I agree with everything you said, but I guess i should have explained what I meant by versatility. Yes Boyz II Men had the better voices/harmony, but what i meant by versatility was in "song making ability". For example, Dru can give you that clean image with a meaning behind the lyrics with "these are the times" go gospel on you with "5 steps" get freaky with "real freak" an even hip hop flavored material with "you are everything" to uptempo club bangers like "how deep is your love". to sum it up, dru hill offers more of a wide range of songs choices in terms of 'moods' 'categories', 'subjects' or whatever you wanna call it, while boyz ii men who are obviously the better singers gave us mostly similar ballads besides a few of their songs(and dont get me wrong because IMO ballads >>> any tempo r&b song) and i love BIIM. dru hill was better at giving you songs of different tempos and subject matter than boyz ii men, who were the better vocalists. i'd rather listen to dru hill but BIIM was the better group than DH overall tho. Vocally BIIM would destroy DH. Nathan is the best overall vocalist of all of the two groups together due to his ability to reach a high tenor, sing alto or even bass (which he has done well since Michael left). their "ribbon in the sky" acapella was crazy. but nobody in BIIM has a better voice than Sisqo no matter what register they are singing in IMO. LOL. I know exactly what you mean with sisqo's riffs which were the K-Ci signature adlibs "yeaaaah-yeah-eee-yeah" or "ooooh-yeah!"

Lets face it dru grew up tryn to be b2m and thats good you have to look up to someone but if the orginal is still there to choose from you pick the orginal. LOL
R&B Guru 2008-07-13 06:16:42 Total Posts: 2527 | Great posting guys. June, I'm glad you're coming back as you can field quite a wealth of knowledge as well. Though with everyone coming out now, I'm tempted to convert the discussion board into a forum so it can be more easily read/navigated (and wouldn't require scrolling down so far to post hahaha). ilikeit, I'm going to contest your "dru hill wants to be boyz ii men." I feel like Dru's always been attempting to become the next Jodeci, and Sisqo's more in the vein of K-Ci (which June alluded to). I always measure it on the "take home" factor. I feel like the Boyz are all guys you could have over to dinner with your mommma, whereas I feel like with Dru... well, I feel like Sisqo would try and get my momma in bed or flirt with my sister.
