Angie Stone Biography

Angela 'Angie Stone' Brown was born in 1961 in Columbia, South Carolina. She started her career in the early 1980s as a member of The Sequence, one of the first female hip-hop groups. She then performed in a variety of acts, working with Mantronix, Lenny Kravitz and starting the early 90s in the R&B trio Vertical Hold.

Stone continued to work with other artists, forming the group Devox with Gerry Devaux (Lenny Kravitz's cousin) and Charlie Mole. While working on a Japan-only album with the group, Stone also did songwriting, working with D'Angelo on his first two albums.

In 1999, Angie Stone released her first solo album, Black Diamond. The album went gold and featured the single 'No More Rain' which reached #9 on the R&B charts.

Mahogany Soul, Stone's second album, was released in 2001 and had similar success, going gold. The album's best single, 'Brotha' reached #13 on the R&B charts.

Stone released her last album in 2004. Since then, Stone participated in a theatre play titled 'Issues: We've Got Them All.' She also appeared in VH1's Celebrity Fitness club in which she's trying to lose weight.

She has a son with D'angelo and a daughter.
